Woman skinny as a straight pin came in looking for help. She told this story:
She ran out of gas and didn't listen to her instincts and call the police to help. Instead she accepted help and got a ride to the gas station. When she woke up, her car keys and cell phone were gone. Now she was stranded with no money, no phone, and no car. She needed transportation to her car about 60 miles away.
That was her story.
What I think really happened:
She ran out of gas trying to score some drugs. She came down off her meth high and fell asleep on the highway. A good Samaritan gave her a ride to a gas station. In her daze, she left her car keys and phone in the car.
Regardless of her addiction and the truth, she needed help. Here's what we did:
We found an agency who would give her a free bus ticket to the town her car was in. We gave her clothes, shoes, water, and some left-over donated baked goods in the employee refrigerator.
Do I trust her? No.
But she's a human being and someone's daughter. We can only help what we can and leave it up to her to find her way out of her self-destructive behavior.
