$2.99 for a vibrating .... massager Young guy tries to get a discount on a vibrating foot massager $24. Sorry, you're not eligible for the Senior discount. So he comes back to the register with an old woman who is holding $3 in her hand. The massager has a new sticker for $2.99. Sorry. I can tell you just stuck a new tag on. You just talked to me about the massager. "My wife's feet hurt!" "Then give her a foot massage!" Then the woman turns to the young guy. "Well, I tried." He'd gone up to the old woman to ask her to pay for it. Sorry, dude. A massager is a luxury. If you needed clothes for an interview, we could talk.

"I need a belt to hold up my pants"

Young guy confronted me yesterday. "I see you guys all over trying to raise money to help people. Well I'm homeless, and I need help. What are you going to do to help me? I need a belt to hold up my pants." Lady waiting at the register says, "Do you have a job?" EXPLOSION! "I have a job. I make $10 an hour. I don't make enough to live." Lady offers to pay for the belt. "I don't want you to pay for my belt! I want you (meaning Nonprofit) to pay for the belt." So I gave him the belt and gave him the address to get help. "I'm going to walk there right now." And it's true. So many homeless are normal, average, working people who don't make a living wage.

Helping the Homeless

Guy came in and wanted to park his bike inside. Didn't have a lock. Yeah, okay. Clean-cut, dressed average. Asking about tents. We only had a kid's tent. When someone comes in asking for a tent and asks for a discount on a sleeping bag and pad, you get suspicious. Yep, dude's homeless. Told him to get the kid's tent because tents don't come in often. Better have something small than nothing at all. Gave him everything. Then he asked about food. Sent him to our admin offices. Told him to go right away because the holidays are coming up. Gave him a list of the soup kitchens in the area. I think he's new to the homeless world. Oh boy. Hopefully he can get on his feet before someone steals everything he just got.
